July 31, 2008

John Todd Ecological Design, Inc., a leader in natural wastewater treatment systems, announced on July 24 that its founding principal John Todd, PH.D., was awarded the first-annual Buckminster Fuller Challenge Award with his submission, "Comprehensive Design for a Carbon Neutral World: The Challenge of Appalachia."

The Buckminster Fuller Institute panel of advisers/jurors issued a statement praising Todd's strategy saying the work "best embodies the bold, visionary approach to large-scale societal transformation pioneered by Buckminster Fuller."

Todd invented the Eco-Machineā„¢ for the treatment of sanitary and industrial wastewater with a focus on water reuse and energy efficiency. JTED has designed and installed innovative ecological wastewater treatment systems throughout the world for the past 20 years. Recognized with three merit awards by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Todd was named among the greatest inventors of the 20th Century by David Brown in his book, Inventing Modern America.

Jonathan Todd, president of JTED and son of the inventor, said the Buckminster Fuller Award is "one of the most meaningful and significant" his father has received. He added, "In the fast-growing ecological systems design world, being chosen to receive this prestigious award gives us all a renewed sense of optimism." /p>
