Colorado Invests in Water Research

May 28, 2008

Gov. Bill Ritter signed a bill to fund water research through the Colorado Water Institute, a fixture at Colorado State University since 1965.

The Colorado Water Institute was created to connect the water expertise of the higher education system with the water education and research needs of water users and managers.

The bill provides $500,000 in additional funding for water research in 2009, which will allow the institute to continue serving as the state's main water information and education center. With water needs intensifying and changing, the institute also will educate the next generation of water scientists, managers, planners, and educators. The institute will continue its scientific research and policy analysis including drought planning and mitigation and climate change and adaptation to help Colorado prepare for any water circumstance.
